Pharaoh ants are relatively common in Iceland. They are most often found in well heated houses such as hospitals, retirement homes and homes with children. This species has many queens so it is very easy for it to spread from one house to another. A single queen could travel over and start a new colony which in time will also develop more queens.

This species is harmless to humans but due to their small size, the ants can get into food wrapping where they can sometimes drop pathogens.
