We have arranged an event with the Icelandic museum of natural history: Ants in Iceland / Maurar á Íslandi
Sunday May 5th: Sunnudagur 5. maí
Location: Perlan, 2. floor
Time: kl. 14 – 16
Ants and ant colonies will be on display, supervised by the Marco Mancini, Andreas Guðmundsson on the Ant team.
This is part of fun Sunday programme of the museum.
Access to the event is free.
The Ants appeared on the Icelandic television series Landinn.
To increase the chances of people learning that ants do in fact exist in Iceland, we have made a page on twitter, instagram and Youtube.
As of yet, these pages will all be in Icelandic.
The entrance of an ant nest can be very busy in these warm Icelandic summer days.
Workers are tirelessly walking in and outside the nest: foragers that leave the nest to look for food and then come back a few minutes later with food in their mandibles.
At the end of the video, we can also see a worker carrying a larva. Since many Lasius sp. may exhibit weak polydomy (the same colony can occupy two or more separated nests), this ant is presumably moving the larva from that nest to the next one, a few centimeters far.
